A County Transformed

I so enjoyed the poems and songs submitted by followers on this blog the last few weeks before Easter.  Thanks to those who contributed and a special thanks to those who walked with us by reading the blogs, “liking” the site, and following the pathway of the cross the last few weeks.

Last week I spoke to a friend of mine named Tim Williams.  Tim is from Polk County, Florida, and Tim is seeing the entire county transformed.  How?  Community outreach by various churches in that county,  prayer and intercession at the “gates” or main entrances into his county,  and by BILLBOARDS!  Yep, we’re back to billboards again. (I can’t get away from that, can I?)

COMMUNITY OUTREACHES  In community outreaches, the various churches come together to give out food to the unemployed and/or homeless.  They call themselves “The Gathering Place”.  Tim said, “We don’t preach from the stage.  We have worship music going on.  Ministry is face to face, feet to feet, loving on people, being examples of Christ.  Some ask why are you doing this?  He (Jesus) did it for us.  We’re building relationships with people.”

PRAYING AT THE GATES   Tim and his team prayerfully went to the entrances of the city on the main highways and roads that bring outsiders into their county.  At each city gate, Tim’s prayer group put oil on the roadway and prayed:

9 Evil people will be sent away,
but those who trust the Lord will inherit the land.
10 In a little while the wicked will be no more.
You may look for them, but they will be gone.
11 People who are not proud will inherit the land
and will enjoy complete peace (Psalms 37:9-11 NCV).

Can I tell you that the newspapers report that the crime rate has “unexplainably” gone down in Polk County, Florida?

BILLBOARDS  God spoke to Tim’s hearts about putting up billboards. I was so

“If I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto Me.”

surprised to find out that the billboards with the cross on it had stopped 2 suicides.  Tim says God spoke to him to put up billboards through the following scriptures:

10 Go through, go through the gates!
Make the way ready for the people.
Build up, build up the road!
Move all the stones off the road. (Obstacles such as drugs, pornography, prostitution, etc….)
Raise the banner as a sign for the people.

 11 The Lord is speaking
       to all the faraway lands:
    “Tell the people of Jerusalem,
       ‘Look, your Savior is coming.
    He is bringing your reward to you;
he is bringing his payment with him.’ ”
12 His people will be called the Holy People,
the Saved People of the Lord,
and Jerusalem will be called the City God Wants,
the City God Has Not Rejected (Isaiah 62:10-12).

God searches the earth looking for people whose hearts are going hard after him.  When he finds someone who’s faithful to him, he will trust that man or that woman with his message, his work, his plan of redemption.

Are we ready?  Are we inspired?  Will God find us seeking Him–what I call spending time under the Tree of Life?

I’m guessing that when God moves in your county or in mine, he won’t wave a magic wand and make it all happen.  I think God will look for a person.  He’ll look for a man or woman who’s willing to work, willing to obey Him, happy to serve and do all that is in God’s heart to do.

What do you think?  Will God change your county in your lifetime?  Are there prayers or scriptures that you pray concerning your realm of influence?  Please share with us.

About Lift the Cross of Jesus!

My day job is writing--I'm an author and publisher of a number of books. More on that later. But there is nothing of greater importance to me than the early morning hours I spend with the Creator of the Universe. Although He knows everything there is to know, His greatest delight isn't to give us knowledge, but to give us love. My highest joy is to watch the sun rise with notebook in hand and write the words he speaks to my heart. I want to share some of those words with you here . . . words on the cross.

Hope, My blog, jean-oathout.blogspot.com, is reaching 20 countries with “Messages of Faith for You”, I trusting that God is using the posts to change lives wherever they are. It’s a joy to serve the Lord this way.

    • You know that’s true. For those of you who are writers, it’s important to remember that the words we write have this beautiful way of expanding and multiplying. I know people called to be missionaries after reading an article in National Geographic about the poorest nation on the earth. God brings people from all over and articles and books (and blogs we hope) are passed hand to hand and email to email. Wow. We really DO need to stay under the Tree of Life so we’re hearing God’s heart and repeating its beat precisely.

I pray for the West Coast and our nation that the Lord’s divine plans and redemptive purposes are fulfilled so that His will may be done on earth in our generation.

  3. Before I leave this post on a county tranformed, I want to let you all know that Tim’s prayer team was shocked when atheists, many who were from out of town and did not live in Polk County, came to his county “gateways” where they’d prayed and washed the oil off the roads. Tim’s prayer teams also put up memorial stones at another time of prayer to show the place where they prayed around their county lines and, although the atheists tried, they couldn’t find the stones. Churches in this county are putting up billboards with Jesus and the cross and praying over their territory, but they’re finding that there are enemies of the cross. Newspapers actually took pictures of the atheists scrubbing the roadway!
