Did you watch the movie, The Cross and the Switchblade, when you were growing up? (Click that title and you can watch the whole movie on You Tube)! Pat Boone did a stellar job portraying David Wilkerson, the country preacher who went into the inner city lifting the cross of Jesus to the inner city gangs there. I, too, grew up in inner city ministry, so the movie intrigued me. I saw it in church because I wasn’t allowed to go to movies to see it. (Those of you who endured legalism in the 70’s probably remember those days). But one thing GREAT came out of those churches. SOULS came to Jesus! God uses us in spite of ourselves, doesn’t He?
Anyway, I was both surprised and thrilled to find that once again David Wilkerson’s son, Gary, sent out one of his late father’s devotionals that hit on our theme lately–emergency preparedness. (The cool thing about writers is that their words live above the ground for a looooong time after they’re six feet under).
You can click the link in the above paragraph to see his short devo.
David wrote, “No matter how unsettled the world becomes, God’s people can relax and keep their joy flowing, because our Lord has promised special protection when it is most needed.”
He said, “Didn’t God have an emergency plan for Noah? . . . for the children of Israel during the worldwide famine? for Elijah? Lot? Noah? Paul?” PLEASE open up this devotional now and be encouraged! EMERGENCY PLANS FOR CRISIS!
by David Wilkerson
Without a doubt, the best emergency plan is hanging onto God.
I never did see the movie, “The Cross and the Switchblade,” but I sure enjoyed the book and the followup one by Nicky Cruz, “Run Nicky Run.”
