Keep Your Candle Burning

I watch and wonder who will win? The darkness or the light?

I watch and wonder who will win? The darkness or the light?

I guess you heard? Last week ISIS captured 88 Christians in Libya from a caravan of trucks that were trying to get the Christians out of harm’s way.  The bride of Christ is being chased down, raped, and slaughtered.  If you’d like news and spiritual insight on ISIS and its goals for Israel in particular, I’d advise you to read the ASSIST News interview of CBN’sDestination_Jerusalem_book_cover Chris Mitchell, who recently wrote a book titled DESTINATION JERUSALEM: ISIS, Convert or Die, Christian Persecution and Preparing for the Days Ahead (C & L Publishing LLC).  It’s new and I’m ordering it myself.

It’s during weeks like this that I wonder WHAT DOES GOD SEE?

I mean, from heaven, what does all this wickedness look like to him?

God sees.  God hears.  Proof:

  1. Sodom–20 And the Lord said, “The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. 21 I will go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know (Genesis 18).”

2.  Days of Noah–Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved [e]in His heart (Genesis 6).

God sees.  God hears.  God sees and hears the Christians, too.

In the early 1990’s I was just beginning to write for this warrior bride of Christ.  I was honored to be a voice for the persecuted Christians with my pen. One morning God woke me up and I heard his voice clear as a bell:

“Persecution is a great darkness over the lands–  bible-by-candlelight

if ONE person lights a candle, there is light.”

I knew only God could have said that.  He woke me up out of a deep sleep!  So I ran to my office and wrote down the words above.  I even made up personal business cards that had a candle and a quill pen with those words on it.

When God said those words to me, I personally pictured in my mind the dark December nights with Christmas lights all over the trees and bushes and homes!  And that’s what we look like to God–LIGHTS in this DARK EARTH.

candle holdersHow does a candle light?  Each Christmas Eve, my father-in-law and mother-in-law make sure everyone (about 40 of us now) have a candle. A match is needed for only ONE!  The other candles are lit by . . . well, by other candles.

JESUS is the light of the world.  Is his “candle” burning in you?  Has your candle touched another flameless candle and brought light into that dark soul? It’s not a hard thing to do–in fact, it’s even fun!

In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I AM the light of the world.”

In Matthew 5:14 Jesus said, “YOU ARE the light of the world.”

Which is it?  BOTH!  Keep your candle burning and the flame steady in these dark days.  Share that flame with others.

We bless God and we enlighten mankind when we “Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!” So I leave us with Jesus’ words and admonition. I hope this encourages your soul today:

Praise God, the darkness can NEVER extinguish Jesus’ light!

About Lift the Cross of Jesus!

My day job is writing--I'm an author and publisher of a number of books. More on that later. But there is nothing of greater importance to me than the early morning hours I spend with the Creator of the Universe. Although He knows everything there is to know, His greatest delight isn't to give us knowledge, but to give us love. My highest joy is to watch the sun rise with notebook in hand and write the words he speaks to my heart. I want to share some of those words with you here . . . words on the cross.

Oh, Hope, my heart burns within me at your words! Everything in me says, “Yes, and amen–so be it!” May we all shine brightly with that Light from heaven–and may we all work while it is still day. Night is coming when no man can work. Our Father only holds back His judgment because He longs to see more individuals moved from darkness into the kingdom of His light and love.

But His holiness dictates He can’t hold back forever. So yes, this little light of mine–I’m gonna let it shine! Thank you for reminding us how vital each light is! And how important it is to light the next one beside us!

    • You know, Becky, I think of that “unlit candle” inside all the people that God created. It’s there and has the potential to burn, to carry light, to pass on that light to others. I hope to “touch candles” with this crowd in 2015! But even more, and I know this sounds crazy, I realize that our lights shining here on earth bring great satisfaction, comfort, and even victory to our God in heaven. Satan is always accusing somebody. He talks to us and accuses God of not treating us right. He talks to God and accuses us of not being faithful to Him. And here we are just shining away, believing with full hearts, kicking all that accusation to the curb while we lift the cross. I can hear God saying, “Have you considered my servant, Hope?” “Have you considered my servant Becky?” WHOOOOO-HOOOOOoooooo!!! We sure don’t need a “Job day” in 2015. Each day is full of evil and wickedness in these last days. But WE ARE HERE!!! LIGHTS in the dark world. BLESS GOD!

” it only takes one Christian on fire for Jesus to start a revival “.
May the Holy Spirit baptism of fire burn brightly in our souls to bring light to a dark, lost and dying world.
