I Saw the Sleeping Church

We need the baptism of the Holy Spirit so that we will be AWAKE, ALERT, and BOLD for our coming King! He is planning a wedding and YOU are in it!!

I had a dream.

I was walking on a sidewalk up a steep hill in a bride’s dress. There was a grassy area on both sides of the sidewalk.bride-walking-up-hill

Although I was the bride, I was not ready to walk down the aisle–there was work to be done in preparing the reception hall for after the wedding. So I was walking up the hill to the reception hall to help. I saw something to my right, in the grass. It appeared to be a large, long rectangular box that was half buried in the ground. I peered into the long box and, much to my surprise, the groom was in there! (Not my real life groom/husband, but the groom from the dream).

This groom had a long dark Amish styled beard with no moustache. (Sorry, I couldn’t find a pic without the moustache, but was AMAZED to find the one below!) He was asleep in his tuxedo! In the dream, I knew he was to get up and MOVE. The wedding was close and we needed help at the reception hall.  I bent over and shook his shoulder.

“Hey, you need to wake up. Wake up!”bearded man sleeping

He barely moved, but he was breathing. I shook him again and urged him to wake up and get out of that–that–oh, MY! He was in an open CASKET!  Yikes! And it was half buried in the ground and half sticking up!

Now I was alarmed! I shook him and he grumbled sleepily and told me to leave him alone.

“Why are you waking me up? Leave me alone.”

He simply would not wake up. He even asked me to put the lid to the casket down.

I thought, NO WAY!

I knew my responsibility was to the reception hall at that moment. The groom grumped at me, turned his head away, and went back to sleep. I lifted a prayer to heaven that God would deal with the groom because I tried and got nowhere. I kept walking up the hill toward the reception hall and then I woke up.

The end.

Well, that’s the end of the dream anyway. Do you see an analogy here? Perhaps a dream interpretation? I hope the dream helps you to see the picture. And remember, the bride of Christ includes all of us, men and women together.

Now, we know that Satan has legal access to the courtroom of God. What is God to do? The Accuser of the Brethren, Satan, walks in and accuses the church, the real church, of being asleep.

Down on our turf, Satan tempts the shallow believers, those who are growing in rocky soil, to seek their own happiness in God. To them, God is a means of personal gain. They do not surrender all, they demand all–all their wants and wishes. They cling to the “joy” of the Lord, but not the Lord Himself. While it is true, He is the God of benefits, He is not a limitless credit card.

What can the righteous do? I will give you the sermon that the Lord gave me this morning!

“Not ALL sleep! There is a remnant that is awake to the voice of God and those who hear His voice will arise and prepare and announce to those sleepers, ‘CHRIST IS COMING! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!”

I earnestly beg you–please–listen for His voice. Any moment now . . .

About Lift the Cross of Jesus!

My day job is writing--I'm an author and publisher of a number of books. More on that later. But there is nothing of greater importance to me than the early morning hours I spend with the Creator of the Universe. Although He knows everything there is to know, His greatest delight isn't to give us knowledge, but to give us love. My highest joy is to watch the sun rise with notebook in hand and write the words he speaks to my heart. I want to share some of those words with you here . . . words on the cross.

Evidence of the Spirit uniting hearts ALWAYS makes me smile. Each morning I listen for a ‘word’ from my King…and Monday, I wrote this: “Awake! Awake! Clothe yourself with strength.” Thanks for being His faithful voice! Love you, Hope.

  2. Billie Jo, it’s such a blessing how you bear witness to this word from God as well. I had the dream some time ago, but was told to release it today. What you wrote down makes me pause–awake AND clothe yourself with strength. In the dream, it took some strength to walk up that hill, but even more strength to keep walking without the groom. Is that “clothing” the armor? Selah. Meditating on this . . .

I believe the dream is simple enough: “Keep on walking toward the wedding feast and pray for God to deal with those who are sleeping in the church.”

  5. Larry, I’ve been told that a prophet is black and white. Love your assessment–which is also SO black and white. Thanks for chiming in!
