The Spirit of Judgment and the Spirit of Burning

Last week we looked at the Spirit of Wisdom and how the Spirit of Wisdom is coupled together with both Understanding and Revelation. As an overview, let’s look at the 7 Spirits of God as revealed in scriptures.

The Spirit of wisdom and understanding

The Spirit of counsel and might

The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

The Spirit of grace and of supplication

The Spirit of judgment and the Spirit of burning

The Spirit of justice

The Spirit of wisdom and of revelation

This week I want to look at the Spirit of Judgment and the Spirit of Burning.

The Spirit of Judgment and the Spirit of Burning are coupled together in one passage of scripture. This scripture is so important because it gives us a peek into something that everyone likes to talk about and a few of us pray for–the GLORY OF GOD!

First, let’s look at the single verse:

Isaiah 4:4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and purged the bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and the spirit of burning . . .

This verse reveals to us that The Spirit of Judgment and The Spirit of Burning work together to wash away the filth of sin and purge a city of bloodshed. Think about it. Would you like The Spirit of Judgment and The Spirit of Burning to wash away the filth of sin in your area?  Would you like The Spirit of Judgment and The Spirit of Burning to purge your town or city of all bloodshed, all the way back to the beginning of time?

I have a friend named Henry Gruver who prayer walks cities, towns, islands, and geographic territories. Let me tell you a little about Henry–a man who understands prayer walking to purge a city of bloodshed more than anyone I know.

Henry and Judith GruverIMG_5990Rev. Henry Gruver, Prayer Walker to the Nations

Henry Gruver refers to himself as a prayer walker to the nations. Other spiritual leaders have dubbed Henry as a spiritual father to nations, a modern day prophet of God, and “the James Bond” of God’s kingdom.

Whatever we choose to call him, for the last fifty-five years Henry Gruver has prayer walked vast geographical Arctic regions of Canada, Alaska, and Northern Siberia to the deserts and wilderness areas of Arizona to Eastern and Western Europe, including England and Siberia, from Portugal to Germany to Russia and through Asia from Japan to Korea and China and to the Middle East, from Egypt to Turkey and many points in between.

Henry has experienced the supernatural in many ways. He was:

  • Killed in a car accident and raised from the dead through the faith of his teenage daughter in the presence of paramedics on the scene
  • Taken up to see heaven and “robes of the testimony” worn by saints walking on streets of gold
  • Healed of 5th stage cancer—a doctor told him he had 11 days to live and on that 11th day the Lord healed Henry after he preached in the pulpit in June of 2003
  • He was unwittingly filmed by BBC World News when he prayer walked into “No Man’s Land” between Hezbollah terrorists of Lebanon and Israeli Defense force who were about to open fire in five minutes. When questioned, Henry said, “I’m just praying for the peace of Jerusalem.”
  • He was dropped off by his nervous translator onto an island in Japan known as “Habu” or Viper Island, which was all jungle and inhabited by deadly vipers on the land and in the surrounding water. God led Henry to an ancient altar in a deep cave of the island to pray and remit the sins of the previous generations and to redeem the land. Today Habu Island has no Habu (vipers, but is prospering with farms of vegetables and fruits. His translator is no longer nervous about taking him there

If you’d like to hear more about prayer walking and redeeming the land, please listen to Henry Gruver on You Tube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1fLkvO6K8k  If you take to heart Henry’s message, you will never be the same.

At the heart of his message, Henry teaches Christians how to pull down strongholds and remit the sins of this generation and previous generations. Churches and prayer groups have invited Henry to lead a prayer walk in their geographic territory. I know Henry personally and he has even come to my home to minister to the women on my prayer team, and we were all delighted and eagerly looked forward to Henry’s arrival.

You may be wondering, why prayer walk? Why call out to God for The Spirit of Judgment and The Spirit of Burning?

At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness (Isaiah 26:9).

So we see that the land that experiences God’s judgments will learn righteousness.

Now, let’s look at the entire passage of scripture in Isaiah chapter 4:

When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and purged the bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and the spirit of burning,

then the Lord will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day, even smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory will be a canopy.

There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain.

So we see that the Spirit of Judgment and The Spirit of Burning goes through a geographic territory to cleanse it so that the Lord God is free to create over that entire area a cloud by day, a fire by night, the GLORY of God, a canopy and covering over that area. revival fire

I am right now trying to grasp the significance of all of this and I am asking God for this experience in my little town.

Notice that the territory that experiences the glory of God will also become, later, a place of shelter, refuge, and a protection.

My friend, I believe that this is the key to living in God’s glory in the last days. I can say no more.  Selah–think about that!

About Lift the Cross of Jesus!

My day job is writing--I'm an author and publisher of a number of books. More on that later. But there is nothing of greater importance to me than the early morning hours I spend with the Creator of the Universe. Although He knows everything there is to know, His greatest delight isn't to give us knowledge, but to give us love. My highest joy is to watch the sun rise with notebook in hand and write the words he speaks to my heart. I want to share some of those words with you here . . . words on the cross.

I’ve read a little bit about Henry Gruver and have done prayer walks all over Temecula. What I love is that none of us have the total answer on how to win our cities to Christ and are in constant need of new revelation from others in the Body of Christ and from the Holy Spirit for ourselves.

  2. Yes, we work like a body–left foot forward, right foot forward, walk, walk, walk. Got it! What impacts me the most here is not the prayer walking but the fact that judgment and burning (and I think of Finney, Edwards, and Wesley here) must first fall upon a geographic location before God’s glory can come and not only manifest in a place but also provide a CANOPY over that area that protects and provides for believers. This is a key I have looked for my entire life. I’m so glad God is revealing some of it now. One thing is for sure. None of us have it all when we stand alone, but together we have all we need!

I like this Hope. I’m going to make up a copy for myself and send it to a few of my children. Then go back a make a copy of last weeks teaching. Thank you for sharing your study.

  4. Phyllis, your hunger for this teaching really inspires me to write. I can’t wait until you see Monday’s blog. I wrote it yesterday. God ever so kindly gave me a living example of His Spirit of Grace and Supplication–spent two plus hours in intercession for my son, tears, and worship. There is no way I could have pressed in for that prayer session. It was a gift from God! The Father told me to write on the Seven Spirits of God and I said yes by faith. I really didn’t have very much to work with except the scriptures. He is so FAITHFUL to help me and teach me so I have something to say that is worthy of Him. Hallelujah!

Daughter – You are the wick in the candle – the fire burns on you but does not consume you – the Lord surrounds you and supplies both the fuel and the fire.. Let not your heart be troubled – you are doing the work of the Lord. Be encouraged. Be LOVED.
